I have always derived inspiration from the great artists of our time but particularly from the surrealists, their writings, and their works. The surrealists tapped into the unconscious mind to create dream-like visuals, symbols and images. I, too, endeavor to create works that reflect dreams, social issues or are created through automatic placement. I am particularly taken with the women surrealists – Dorothea Tanning, Leonora Carrington, Remedios Varo and Meret Oppenheim. Their work really speaks to the feminine psyche be it nurturing or not.  Currently, I am utilizing foundry molds, found objects and paint to create abstract symbols, totems or human-like figures. Many of them come together through automatic placement originally, but then with constant editing, are completed with a specific theme or vision in mind. Inspiration often comes from what I see as the weight of humanity on this world and from that, creating work that reflects those feelings, beliefs, or thoughts. Just as with symbols created in the past, I hope my work elicits a feeling, tells a story or at the very least begins one.

I live and work in Florence, MA
